I See the Sign

What is happening out there?

What is happening? The world around us seems to be changing at lightning speed—confusion, shifting morals, and uncertainty are everywhere. If you sometimes feel uneasy as you watch these changes unfold, know that you’re not alone. Take a moment, pause, breathe deeply, and look around. Despite the chaos, none of it has surprised God. He hasn’t been caught off guard or toppled from His throne. He remains sovereign, steady, and in control. In fact, the Bible warned us long ago about what the last days would look like. These warnings aren’t meant to frighten us, but to prepare us for what’s ahead.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 reminds us: “But understand this, that in the last days dangerous times [of great stress and trouble] will come [difficult days that will be hard to bear]. For people will be lovers of self [narcissistic, self-focused], lovers of money [impelled by greed], boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane, [and they will be] unloving [devoid of natural human affection, calloused and inhumane], irreconcilable, malicious gossips, devoid of self-control [intemperate, immoral], brutal, haters of good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of [sensual] pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of [outward] godliness (religion), although they have denied its power [for their conduct nullifies their claim of faith]. Avoid such people and keep far away from them.”

These verses paint a vivid picture of today’s world. If you follow Christ, expect your faith to be challenged and ridiculed. Media, social platforms, and even algorithms can seem stacked against believers. But don’t lose heart—Jesus Himself said, “If the world hates you, know that it hated Me before it hated you” (John 15:18). Loving Him means sometimes feeling out of place in the world, and that’s not a pessimistic outlook—it’s God’s promise. Stand firm, knowing your struggle is not in vain.

As Jesus’ return draws near, the line between right and wrong seems more blurred than ever. Temptation is always just a click away, and technology has made it easier to fall into sin. Gossip, criticism, and anger can be broadcast to thousands instantly. What used to stay hidden now plays out in the open, and the sense of shame is growing weaker. Yet, the pursuit of holiness is more important than ever. It’s a daily struggle, but it’s worth fighting.

Christians and non-Christians see life through very different lenses. We believe we’re created by God, while others believe evolution is our origin. We recognize ourselves as sinners in need of grace, while some see humanity as inherently good. These viewpoints affect everything—our view on gender, family, and truth. Regardless of your stance, challenges are inevitable. The real question is: are you facing the right challenges? Are you standing for what matters?

Some people feel completely comfortable in today’s culture. If the way society thinks, acts, raises children, and navigates politics feels perfectly natural, it’s time to pause and reflect. If the news and entertainment don’t disturb you even a little, you may be growing numb to the evil around you. For believers, the journey gets harder as we near the end—we begin to long for our true home with God. That longing is a sign you belong to Him.

This difference is crucial. Christians have the Holy Spirit, a guide and comforter, while others do not. Without the Spirit, people rely solely on their own desires and instincts, which are often short-sighted and self-destructive. But when you receive the Holy Spirit, everything changes—your thoughts, your heart, your identity, your desires. Galatians 5 describes the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Suddenly, reading the Bible, praying, and worshipping become natural, even joyful. Those who once irritated you become your brothers and sisters, and you genuinely appreciate them. This isn’t about forcing yourself to change; it’s about being transformed from the inside out.

The signs are everywhere, urging us to make a choice. Jude asked—and I echo the question today: Whose side are you on? In these last days, there’s no room for fence-sitting. If you’ve been living with one foot in the world and one in God’s Kingdom, the time to decide is now. Choose today whom you will serve. Choose well, and let your life reflect that choice.
